My soft spot for Gamespot

10 07 2008

I’ve never been disappointed by a game that Gamespot said was fantastic. In fact, I respect Gamespot’s reviews so much that I’ll check the site before buying a game.

When they gave Assassin’s Creed a 9.0, I bought it — and I hated it for the first few hours. Still, I persisted and can now happily say it’s one of my favourite games ever. I bought Rock Band because of that site. And reluctantly bought Guitar Hero 3, as it got a bit of a mediocre review (I really wanted the wireless guitar).

I say all that so I can relate my utter sadness I felt today w

hen I finally got around to checking Gamespot’s review of Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift for the Nintendo DS.

They only gave the game a 7.0 and my threshold for buying a game is usually at least and 8.3 from their critics.

However, I saw something on the site that made me go “hmmm.”

Sweet deal

21 06 2008

I love Fridays; it’s the day the Best Buy and Future Shop flyers land in my mailbox.

Tomorrow (June 22) Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS hits shelves. The game sells for 49.99 at Best Buy. The store’s also bundling the DS with Guitar Hero for $179.99.

Also (it’s a big week for Guitar Hero fans), Guitar Hero: Aerosmith’s release date is June 29. Future Shop is selling it for the suggested retails price of $99.99. I doubt you’ll find it any cheaper for a while. But if you do, let me know.

As a result of this new game eating store space, Future Shop is trying to create an exodus of Guitar Hero: Legends of Rock by slashing the guitar-game bundle down to $69.99. That’s a sweet deal. The Guitar Hero guitar for this game is awesome, and well worth it.

Viva cheap games! A Kameo appearance…

25 05 2008

I love cheap games. And it just so happens Best Buy has one of the best sales I’ve seen in a while.

The store is selling four Xbox 360 titles for $9.99 each. Normally, at that price they’re trying to ditch the latest bit of movie knock-off garbage. But this time, they’re selling some good ones – most notably, Viva Pinata and Kameo (click the names for reviews). I picked up both.

They’re also selling Vampire Rain and Ninety Nine Nights. I wouldn’t waste your hard-earned $9.99 on those two though. I’m not even wasting time linking to their awful reviews.

The sale ends May 29.
